THE CHESTNUT FOUNDATION
GOALS OF THE CHESTNUT FOUNDATION

FIRST GOAL:

To assist families who have more than one disabled child, where the children have either
different, or multiple disabling illnesses

SECOND GOAL:

To raise awareness of Transverse Myelitis and other rare neurological disorders that occur in
children
The Shelby and Benjamin Chestnut Foundation Inc.
was started because of these two children, Shelby
and Benjamin Chestnut. They are siblings and each
child has a rare, very serious, and very disabling
neurological illness. Shelby has a problem in the
basal ganglia of her brain. Benjamin has
Transverse Myelitis. Both also have Cerebral Palsy.
Neither child can walk or talk. These children
inspired us to do as much as possible to assist
families who do not have the resources to meet all
the medically-related needs of their multiple
disabled children.
